Top 10 Water Purifiers in India 2020

We all know how important water is, for every single living species on earth and the human race won’t be able to survive without it. The problem with the privileged human beings is, they take things for granted, until and unless there is a scarcity of resources. They blame everyone else rather than making changes in their ways and daily lifestyle. Saving water is the need of the hour.

Clean drinking water is not available for everybody; even water is not available in a lot of areas. Unfit drinking water has led to an increase in diseases among the young ones and people of all ages. The need for a water purifier in a home has now become a necessity. You cannot drink water directly from the tap or from any other source.

Before the water purifiers came into existence, we used to boil the water first and then pour it into a big steel container which had 3 sediment filters attached to its upper compartment. The water used to filter out from them slowly and took at least 3-4 hours to filter out 10 litres of water, which is a lot more than the water purifiers available now.

A good quality water purifier costs range from a minimum of Rs: 15000. There is no limit on the price depending upon the type of water purifier you need for your home or office. When moving to a new house, the first thing you would need is a water purifier. Now, the challenge is to find a water purifier which suits your consumption, fits your budget and is delivered to you as soon as possible.

Well, for that you can consider renting water purifier, without any hassle. By purchasing a water purifier on rent, you save a lot of your money, the setup of the water purifier is done by the professional delivery team. By renting a water purifier, you can even experiment for a while to find out the perfect type of water purifier you require for your household requirements.

There are several types of processes on which a water purifier works, like; Reverse Osmosis (RO), Ultra Filtration (UF) and Ultra Violet Disinfection (UV). A water purifier works on the principle of Reverse Osmosis (RO). The processes are chosen by the type and quality of water.

Reverse Osmosis (RO)

The contaminated impure water from the pipeline enters the water purification tank and passes through a semi-permeable membrane. The membrane blocks the impurities and solvents which are present in the tap water. It filters out contaminants like ions, microorganisms, chemicals, pesticides, various salts of magnesium or calcium and many others.

rent water purifier

Many water treatment plants use RO process to get rid of some high level of impurities and contaminants in the water.

Various parts of, RO system process are:

1. PRE-FILTERS

Before water passes through the semi-permeable membrane,  it goes through a set of pre-filters. They can be sediment filters. These filters remove chlorine, dust, dirt and other sediments present in the impure water, to protect the semi-permeable membrane from damage.

2. RO-MEMBRANE

The impure contaminated water then passes through the RO membrane which helps in removing all types of contaminants from the water. Water reaches the storage tank afterward.

3. POST-FILTERS

Before entering the storage tank, the RO treated water is made to pass through the final post filters. They are known as Carbon Filters. Carbon filters help in removing bad odors, improving the color and taste of water.

These carbon filters employ a process called “chemical absorption” or “carbon filtration”; where the water is filtered through carbon to remove the impurities.

The contaminants are trapped by the activated carbon particles and the remaining water passes through it. Common types of carbon filtration systems are; Granular activated carbon filters (GAC) and Powdered block filters.

4. STORAGE TANK

The purified treated water is collected in the storage tank. The volume or the capacity of the storage tank differs for each variant of water purifier. Before buying or renting a water purifier do check the storage capacity to make sure that it’ll be enough for your daily use or not.

5. DRAIN LINE

The white or blue colored pipe which leads to the sink from the back of the water purifier is called the drain line. It drains out the wastewater and other contaminants.

You can also use this water to wash utensils, clothes, use it for bathing or washing hands & feet. By doing this, you save water and in return help others to have a sustainable environment for the future.

ULTRAFILTRATION (UF)

This phenomenon uses hydrostatic pressure to force water against a semi-permeable membrane. The semi-permeable membrane removes bacteria and microorganisms. It also removes molecules that are larger than the size of the pores of the semi-permeable membrane.

TDS CONTROLLER

The full form of TDS is Total Dissolved Solids which represents the total amount of dissolved substances in water. It is made up of some amount of organic type of matter and some inorganic salts. The salts can be of calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium, also some carbonates, bicarbonates, nitrates, and chlorides.

A TDS Controller reduces the amount of TDS level in the water coming out of the RO Membrane. It reduces the hardness of water by 90%. Remember, less the value of TDS does not indicate that the water is pure. In some areas, the water coming through the pipelines already has a low TDS Value and will be bitter in taste. A TDS controller is used to raise or control the levels of TDS in the water you drink.

Level of TDS (Milligrams per Litre) Rating
Less than 300 Excellent
300-600 Good
600-900 Fair
900-1200 Poor
Above 1200 Unacceptable

ULTRAVIOLET DISINFECTION (UV)

A UV Lamp which releases UV rays is used for disinfection of the water before it passes through the drain line. The UV Light coming out of the UV Lamp is known as UV-C or Germicidal UV. The UV rays penetrate the body of the pathogens present in the water, to deactivate them. It has the ability to kill 99.99% of microorganisms.

The microorganisms are not immune against the UV Rays. The efficiency of the UV Light increases due to the pretreatment process (reverse osmosis) carried out, on the impure water. It is hard to figure out which one is the best and which one is the best suited for your household.
